                            James L. Gates

Mr. J. L. Gates, the owner of the fine residence pictured above, now resides at Milwaukee, where he is engaged in the real estate business. But he has been homesick ever since he went there some three years ago, and is making arrangements to return to his first love. He is an old operator in the logging industry in this county, and made all his wealth here. He owns thousands of acres of real estate in the county, and much city property, including a large brick business block and many tenement houses. The residence shown below occupies one of the most sightly places in the city, being at the south end of Hewett street, and overlooking the whole city.
