Redmond, Greenlief (13 JAN 1854 – 15 FEB 1917)

Thursday morning, Feb. 15, 1917, at an early hour, at his home on North Hewett St. (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), Greenlief Redmond passed on to his rest, after months of patient suffering. Sweet shall that rest be, till Go shall call us all to the last great awakening.

None but his faithful wife can tell of the days and nights, as together they fought for the life so dear to both, but it was hopeless, and every effort was then turned to ease the day left. All that tender, helping hands could do, was ever at his service, and he was ever grateful, and glad to meet the friends and neighbors who came. Let the comfort of the wife be, in the memory of his trust in her and that he felt she did all in her power for him, and the niece, who so nearly filled a daughter’s place in the heart and home. We can only say be glad that at last he is resting. During the weary hours of suffering the husband and wife talked of a Heavenly Home, and he accepted her faith and church. He was baptized by Father Volz, of Marshfield, and given the rites of the Catholic Church. He was buried from St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 17, 1917, the services being conducted by Rev. Weber, and his remains were laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.

He was born in Maine Jan. 13, 1854, and came here in 1867 with his parents, brothers and sister, settling in the town of York. He was married to Miss Ellen O’Brien at Black River Falls April 14, 1884. Their home was on the farm until the year 1910, when they sold the farm and moved to Neillsville. He was a kind husband, friend and neighbor. He served in town offices and anywhere he could be useful. He leaves many friends to regret his going. But let us be glad for his sake that suffering and pain is all done, and hope to meet in a better world.

He leaves besides his wife to mourn his death, three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Mary Churchill and Mrs. Emma Hosely, both of Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Anna Robinson of Neillsville, G.K. Redmond of Neillsville, and M.C. Redmond of York, and several nephews and nieces.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. William Schwentkofske of Superior, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. D. O’Grady, Claire O’Grady, Leona O’Grady, of Merrillan, Mrs. Wm. Dunnan, Thos. Dunn, Mrs. Geo. (The rest of my copy was cut off)
