(19 JUN 1847 – 7 MAR 1917) David William Hopkinson, son of Isaac and Pulehurl Hopkinson, was born at Waukegan, Ill, June 19, 1847, and died at Abbotsford, Wis., March 7, 1917, being at the time of death 69 years, 8 months and 18 days. His early life was spent at Waukegan. At the age of fifteen he enlisted, being assigned to Co. I 12th Ill. Cavalry, and served until Sept. 2, 1865, receving an honorable discharge. He was engaged in the retail shoe business at Sterling, Ill., 1877-1895. From 1895 until 1912 he was traveling salesman, representing the Miller Shoe Mfg. Co., of Cincinnati, Ohio. Five years ago he was stricken with arterial trouble, which terminated in paralysis. In 1904 he moved to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., making this his home until three years ago, when he went to Oconomowoc, where he remained until Sept. 1915, when he returned north, locating at Abbotsford. Soon after locating there, he was stricken with his last illness, which caused his death. He leaves to mourn his death a wife and three children: Charles of Sterling, Ill., Mrs. S.M. Philpott of Chicago, Mrs. Thos. South of Detroit. He was a man of strong likes and dislikes. He was a very devoted husband and father. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oconomowoc. The deceased was buried in Neillsville. Services were held Saturday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church, Rev. S.B. Pinney officiating. |
