Braman, Amos (1842 – 5 FEB 1918)

Amos Braman, who died at his home in the town of Levis, Clark County, Wis., Feb. 5, 1918, was born in New York in 1842. When quite young he went to Michigan to live with his sister, his mother having died. There he grew to manhood, and on July 4, 1863 was married to Miss Nancy M. Fish. In 1867 they moved to Crawford County, Wis., where they lived until 1892, when they moved to Clark County, settling on a farm enar Dells Dam, which remained their home during the rest of their lives. His wife died Oct. 26, 1913. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Braman, three of who preceded them in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Stephen Martin, Soldiers Grove; Mrs. Mary Bacon, Gays Mill; Geo. Braman, Pocatello, Idaho; Mrs. Victor Horton, Levis, and Pearl Braman at home. There are also thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Mr. Braman was a man who took great interest in public affairs both local and national, and was always ready to join in any good cause or one who promised to reform some evil condition. For 57 years he was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, a Sunday School teacher for 60 years and a Sunday School Superintendent for 50 years, twenty-five years of that time being at Dells Dam. He organized eight Sunday schools in Crawford Co. and one in Vernon Co. His death is a great loss to his family and to the community in which he lived, although he had reached an advanced age. The Republican and Press and its readers share in this loss; for many years. Mr. Braman furnished these pages with news items from Dells Dam.

We join many other friends in offering our sympathy to the bereaved family.

The funeral was held at Dells Dam Church Saturday, Rev. S.B. Pinney coming from Mauston to preach the funeral sermon. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.
