Obit: Phillips, Sarah H. (1832 - 1889)
Surnames: PHILLIPS HENDERSHOT FITZGERALD Source: THORP COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 08/16/1889 Phillips, Sarah H. (27 AUG 1832 - 10 AUG 1889) Died, in this village August 10, 1889, Sarah M., wife of Samuel H. Phillips, aged 56 years, 11 months and 14 days. Sarah M. Hendershot was born at Cheshire, Ontario Co., N.Y., Aug. 27, 1832, and was married to her surviving husband Samuel H. Phillips at the same place Dec. 4, 1852. From thence they removed to Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1856, and from thence to Sturgeon Bay, Kaukauna and Marshfield, Wis., from which latter place they removed to Thorp, Clark County, Wis. in Nov. 1884. Mrs. Phillips was the mother of four children, three of whom, Wm. L., Mrs. Eva Fitzgerald and Jerome J. are now living and were present at the funeral services which were held at the First Baptist Church in this village on Monday Aug. 12. Rev. W. A. McKillop, of the First Baptist Church of Eau Claire conducted the service in an eloquent and impressive manner. The officers and members of Bartlett Lodge No. 273, I. O. G. T., of which deceased was a member, attended the services in a body and the floral decorations at the church were beautiful and bore silent testimony to the respect and esteem in which the deceased mother and wife was held in this community. At the age of 18 years Mrs. Phillips experienced religion and joined the Free Will Baptist Church. Shortly after her removal to Thorp herself and husband united with the Baptist Church at this place. A faithful consistent Christian, a kindly loving mother, wife and friend has gone to meet her loved one gone before and receive the plaudit of the Righteous Judge. Death was to her the dawning of an Eternal day that knoweth no sorrow or pain. May we too, die as well, that it may be written of us, as of her: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." |
