Seaman, Randolph (27 MAR 1809 - 14 FEB 1892)

Died, at his residence in this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.), Feb. 14, 1892, Randolph Seaman, aged 82 years, 10 months and 18 days. Born in Duchess Co., N. Y., on March 27, 1809, he removed to Pennsylvania while quite young and in 1829 was married to his first wife. Of this marriage four sons were born, all of who are now dead. Three of them wore the Union blue in the late rebellion. After the death of his first wife he removed to Minnesota, locating near Rochester in that state. Here he married his second wife and here too he was called to part with her for this life. On July 10, 1862 he enlisted in Co. H. 6th Minn. vols., serving his country with credit and was honorably discharged Aug. 19, 1865, after a service of three years, one month and nine days. At Marion, Minn., on Apr. 15, 1866 he was married to his third wife, Mary E., who with their only child Arthur and four stepchildren, are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband, a kind father and a faithful friend. Grandpa Seaman, as he was called by old and young, was a familiar figure on the streets until about a month ago when his health became so poor as to confine him to the house. A blacksmith by trade, he has not worked any at the forge since his removal here in 1884, but has been during that time a severe sufferer at times from an obstinate case of hernia, to which cause his death is directly attributable. The interment occurred at 2 p.m. on Tuesday last from the Baptist Church. The services at the Thorp Cemetery were conducted by the G. A. R. post of this place, of which deceased was a worthy member. Rev.'s McKillop of Eau Claire and Brown of Cadott being unable to officiate on account of sickness, the brief services at the church were conducted by N. Sweet of the M. E. Church. A faithful consistent member of the Christian Church for a score of years he was ripe in years and experience.
