Obit: Brooks, Lillian Mayford (1864 – 1940)
Surnames: Brooks, Lovell, Potter, Roedell, Holmes Source: Clark County Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) Thurs., 12 Dec. 1940 Brooks, Lillian Mayford (11 Nov. 1864 – 3 Dec. 1940) Lillian Mayford Lovell was born at Potsdam, N. Y.; Nov. 11, 1864. She came to Clark County with her parents when she was seven years of age, the family settling on a farm in the town of York. Receiving the foundation for her education in the rural schools, she later attended high school and River Falls Normal. She taught for several years in the schools of Clark County. On October 14, 1885, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Brooks. Together they cleared a farm in the tow of York, upon which they made their home until 1926, when they moved to Fresno, Cal., and had since made their home in that city. Mrs. Brooks had been in frail health for a number of years, her daughter, Mrs. Wayne Potter, of Neillsville having paid her a visit in the western home. Two other daughters, Mrs. O. A. Roedell of Minneapolis and Mrs. C. E. Holmes of Fresno, were with her during her last illness. She passed away at 10:05 p.m. December 3, at the age of 76 years, 20 days, after over 55 years of married life. She is survived by her husband and four daughters: (Hazel), Mrs. O. A. Roedell, Minneapolis; Vivian) Mrs. W. F. Potter, Neillsville; Miss Pearl Brooks, Honolulu, and (Lillian) Mrs. C. E. Holmes, Fresno; also by five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. The family and friends will cherish many kindly remembrances of Mrs. Brooks, for she was outstanding in her ability as a homemaker, highly intelligent and a charming conventionalist. Worthy of mention, also, is her ability to surround herself with friends in a strange city. She became as much attached to her western home, neighbors and friends as she had to the Clark County home and community during her many years of residence here. Services were held in the Mission Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7, burial taking place in the Belmont Memorial Park, Fresno, Cal. |
