Palmer, Katherine (18 Feb. 1868 – 22 Dec. 1940)

Mrs. Merton Palmer passed away at her home in this city at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, after an illness of three months duration.

Mrs. Palmer (nee Katherine Molzhon) was born to Josephine and August Molzhon in West Prussia, Germany, Feb. 18, 1868, coming to America when she was two years of age. Clark County had been her home for 70 years.

In December, 1885, she was married to Merton Palmer at Boyd, Wisconsin. They were the parents of three children: Ina, Mrs. Harry Neipert, Ft. Atkinson, Josephine, Mrs. A. E. Bllum, Shawano, and Ernest, who was accidentally killed while hunting Dec. 10, 1930. Mr. Palmer died April 15, 1928. The two daughters survive. Since Mrs. Palmer took sick three months ago, they had been untiring in their effects to give their mother every comfort and to nurse her back to health, alternating almost constantly at her beside at the hospital and at the home since she was able to return there.

Mrs. Palmer was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, working as loyally and unselfishly in the interests of that organization as she had in every duty in life which fell to her. In a quiet way she performed many kindly deeds. It is interesting to note that Mrs. Palmer was a charter member of one of the community’s first social organizations – The West Side Soceity – all of the mother living on farms west of the river. Few members of that fine goru8p of women are now living.

She is survived also by six grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Antone and Sam, Richey, Montana; John, Albert and Ike of Ross, N. D.; Mrs. M. Flynn, Superior, Mrs. Leo Rell, Jim Falls, Wis.; Mrs. Rose Hoellinger, Minot, N. D.; Mrs. James O’Meara, Minot; Mrs. Mathilda Desy, Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Jennie Walsh, Spokane, Wash.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 26, at Schiller’s Funeral home and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Father Biegerl officiating.
