Salwach, Mary (27 AUG 1892 – 21 AUG 1932)

A large per cent of the people of St. Hedwig’s congregation attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Frank Salwach of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), on Wednesday morning, Aug. 24th.

Deceased was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., Aug. 27, 1892, where she spent her childhood days. Later she moved to Chicago with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Swiech, where at the age of 18 years she entered the convent. Here she served for twenty years as teacher and organist. In June 1930 she received a dispensation from the bishop and came to Thorp, staying with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Glowacki, until she obtained employment as teacher in Bevent, Wis. She stayed there for one school term and on Aug. 4, 1931, was married to Mr. Frank Salwach of Owen, where they lived very happily. Happiness did not last long, as on Aug. 20, 1932, she was taken to the Marshfield Hospital for an operation and on Sunday, Aug. 21st, 1932, she passed away shortly after the birth of a n 11 pound and 14 ounce son. The remains were brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Glowacki of Thorp and funeral services were held Wednesday morning, Rev. F.A. Kulig officiating.

She elaves to mourn her untimely death, he husband and infant son, five step-children, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Swiech, three brothers, Bill and his wife, Casimer and Fred; her two sisters, the Sister M. Bogumila, all of Chicago; Sister M. Leontia of Cleveland, and Sister M. Kajetana, a very close friend; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Rybacki and family and Edward Sowa, also of Chicago, and Mrs. Ira Barnum and Helen Glowacki of Eau Claire.

The baby was baptized at the St. Hedwig’s Church by Rev. F.A. Kulig on Friday. The sponsors were Mr. Paul Glowacki and Mrs. Bill Swiech. The baby was named Frank Marion. The godmother took the child to Chicago where she will give it a home.
