Deal, Lydia Theressa (6 June 1860 – 28 April 1941)

Mrs. Lydia Theressa (Baughman) Deal, who was the youngest of nine children, was born to Lydia and John Baughman, June 8, 1860. She died April 28, 1941, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 20 days.

The departed was born in Jordan Township, Green County, Wis., spending most of her earlier life there with her mother. April 6, 1898, she came to Columbia and on that date was united in marriage to Edward F. Deal. Two children were born to them. The eldest son, Franklin, is in a sanitarium. Edward, who is married, conducts the home farm.

Mrs. Deal was one of the early settlers of Clark County. She and her husband worked hard to make a home for themselves and their family by clearing their land of stumps and underbrush. She knew the trails and hardships which almost never failed to go hand in hand with pioneering. Wherever she could be of service to a neighbor or friend, Mrs. Deal was always willing to do what she could.

Mr. Deal preceded her in death; May 6, 1922. She was the last survivor of the Baughman family. Beside her sons and daughter-in-law she is survived by a grandson, Ralph Eugene Deal, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Jaster Funeral Home last Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Interment was made in the Southwest Pine Valley Cemetery.

Those from out of this community in attendance at the funeral were: Rollie Baughman, Rudolph; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Easler, Ray Burrington, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Stoll, Mrs. George Crooks, Mrs. Jessie Duncan, Mrs. George Von Horn, all of Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Will Burrington, daughter, ?? and son, Ed. Burrington, and daughter, Janesville.
