Schwarze, Herman #2 (20 JUN 1850 – 27 AUG 1944)

Herman Schwarze was born in Lippe Detmold, Germany on June 20, 1850 and came to America with his twin brother John when he was 17 years of age and came to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1870.

On Nov. 11, 1873 he was married to Christine Meier. They were among the first pioneers to make their home at Decker Corners where Mr. Schwarze operated a blacksmith shop. In 1893 they moved to the farm now operated by Otto Schwarze where they lived until they came to Greenwood in 1920. Mr. Schwarze was a charter member of Immanuel Reformed Church on the West Side.

Mr. Schwarze passed away at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Schwarze, on Sunday, Aug. 27, 1944 at 9:50 p.m. of old age and complications.

He is survived by three sons, Otto, Adolph and George of Greenwood, two daughters, Mrs. Mathilda Brick of Greenwood and Mrs. Sidney (Gusta) Greene of Pueblo, Colo., 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schwarze passed away February 21, 1937.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Helen) Buker in 1940; three sons, Frederick who died in infancy, Herman on October 25, 1932, and Albert on Aug. 16, 1944.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 31 (today) at 1:30 p.m. from the Schiller Funeral Parlors and at 2:00 p.m. from the West Side Reformed Church, Rev. B.M. Fresenborg will officiate. The pallbearers will be grandsons, Clarence Haigh, Alvin Brick, Harvey Schwarze, Ewald Schwarze, Geo. Buker and Orlin Schwarze. He will be laid to rest in the West Side Cemetery (east portion) beside his wife.
