Wallis, Norman “Bud” #2 (13 SEP 1911 – 10 AUG 1944)

Norman (Bud) Wallis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wallis, was born in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) on Sept. 13, 1911 and grew to manhood here where he attended school, graduating from high school with the class of 1930.

He spent a few months in St. Paul where he was employed on the construction of the New Brighton Defense Plant. On March 19, 1942 he was inducted into the Army and went from Fort Sheridan to Camp Livingston, La. From here he went to Camp Gordon, Johnston, Fla. And later to Camp Pickett, Va. On October 6, 1943 he left for overseas duty and landed in England on Oct. 28. From England he went to France and the last letter received from him was dated somewhere in France, July 26, 1944. He was a member of the 112th Infantry, Co. I. He received the award of Honor for expert marksman while in training.

On July 13, 1943 he was united in marriage to Miss Louella Svoboda of Berwyn, Ill. The wedding took place at Blackstone, Camp Pickett, Va.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wallis, two brothers, Staff Sgt. Donald Wallis, somewhere in France and Pvt. Harry Wallis, somewhere in the South Pacific, six sisters, Mrs. Rueben (Ora Sanford) Hulett, Hixon; Mrs. Ernest (Mabel) Sanford, Farley, Mrs. Earl (Elnore) Mitchel, Mrs. John (Irene) Rydel, Mrs. John (Elsie) Montez, all of St. Paul, and Mrs. Dewey (Leone) Plahn of Clayton, Wis.

Bud, as he was known here, was killed in action in France on Aug. 10, 1944.
