It is with sorrow that Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) folks mourned of the sudden passing of a well known resident, Mrs. Mary Skerbeck. Mrs. Skerbeck had been ailing occasionally for several weeks but not seriously until Wednesday when she was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield where she passed away Friday afternoon of chronic appendicitis and complications.

The remains were brought to Dorchester Saturday and funeral services held Monday morning at 9:00 from the St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. P. Pitzenberger officiating. Interment was made in the Memorial Cemetery with John Schmitt, ? Kronschnabl, John Plier, John ?, A.P. Mueller and Wm. Schumacher acting as pallbearers.

Mary Dille was born June 15, 1849, in Austria, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dille, and was 82 years, 2 months and 26 days old at time of death. In 1868 she was united in marriage to Frank Skerbeck and they made their home there until 1882, when they came to this country. Arriving in the United States they came directly to Dorchester and purchased a farm 3 miles northeast of the village, better known as the Skerbeck farm, now known as the Fierke farm, but 29 years ago the Skerbecks moved into town where they have resided during the winters, being on the road with their amusement company in the summer.

To this happy union were born 14 children, 6 of whom, with Mr. Skerbeck, preceded Mrs. Skerbeck in death. The eight who mourn her loss are Mrs. J. Carlson, Mrs. W. Sebold, Mrs. A. Kaarup, Mrs. W. Lapp, Mrs. Harry Weydt, Frank, Joe and Gust Skerbeck.

Mrs. Skerbeck, as well as her husband, who passed away in 1921, is assuredly one of the old Dorchester pioneers, and while her friends mourn the loss of a pioneer, they shall miss her gentle sweet disposition and kind words for everyone. She shall truly be missed by her loved ones, her neighbors and her host of friends, for despite her age she was still active and alert to all around her. Mrs. Skerbeck was an active member of the St. Louis Church and of the Christian Mothers. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her eight children, 29 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter 9 years old.

Those present for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Skerbeck and family and gust, who were at Glidden last week, Frank Skerbeck of Iron River, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Lapp of Fifield, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kaarup and Francis Anderson, who are at Wautoma with their carnival, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weydt and son, Charles, of river Falls, Mr. and Mrs. J. Carlson of Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Wolfgang Sebold and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pucker, Mrs. L. Stoker, Mrs. Frank Sebold and Mrs. Ben Sebold of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. H. Behrens of Iron Mountain, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lincoln and family of Oshkosh, Mrs. C. Armstrong of Minneapolis, and Mrs. H. Haeuser of Abbotsford.
