Habeck, Marie (14 SEP 1856 – 16 OCT 1931)

Dorchester friends were saddened this week to learn of the death of Mrs. Marie Habeck, who passed away at her home at Two Rivers, Wis., last Friday, from cancer of the lungs. Mrs. Habeck had been ailing for about three years and although ill, her passing was a great shock to all. The body was shipped here (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.) and funeral services were held Monday afternoon at St. Peter’s Church with Rev. J. Brandt officiating. Interment took place at the Memorial Cemetery with G. Busse, H. Marquardt, F. Habeck, O. Bunke, M. Haufe, and H. Gipp acting as pallbearers. Leota Brandt, Irene Kramer, Gertrude Krerner, Gladys Tessmer, Alice Kalepp and Viola Kellner acted as flower girls.

Marie Kasten was born on Sept. 14, 1856, at Manitowoc, and was 75 years, 1 month and 2 days old at death. In 1876 she was united in marriage to Charles Habeck at Gibson, Wis. To this happy union eight children were born, two of whom preceded their mother in death with Mr. Habeck, who passed away in 1919. Shortly after their marriage the Habecks came to this country and settled on a farm 3 miles west of the village, where they lived a good many years. A number of years ago they moved to Two Rivers for about a year. Upon returning here they purchased the home now owned by F. Whitman. It was there that Mr. Habeck passed away and soon after, Mrs. Habeck returned to Two Rivers, where she has since made her home.

Mrs. Habeck was a loving mother and kind friend to all. Her cheery greeting and fine qualities brought many folks to know and admire her. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church and a conscientious worker.

Besides her sister, Mrs. M. Ramin, Two Rivers, and brother, L. Kasten, Madison, she leaves six children to mourn her loss; three daughters, Mrs. R. Kebel, Phillips, Mrs. M. Sampson, Chicago, and Mrs. R. Daeke, Dorchester, and three sons, Otto and Louis, Two Rivers, and John of Dorchester. She also leaves 14 grandchildren.

Out of town relatives attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. L. Habeck, Otto Habeck and Mrs. M. Ramin, Two Rivers, Mrs. M. Sampson, Chicago, L. Kasten, Mrs. La Plante, Mr. and Mrs. E. Kasten and son, Arthur, Madison, Mrs. R. Kebel, Phillips, and Mrs. C. Schwentener, Mrs. M. Losby and Arnold Habeck, Park Falls.
