Obit: Cleveland, Minnie (1862 – 1939)
Surnames: Cleveland, Green, Thomas, Chatten Source: Humbird Enterprise (Humbird, Wis.) Sat., 11 March 1939 Cleveland, Minnie (1 Jan. 1862 – 26 Feb. 1939) When a very small girl, Minnie Green, came to this vicinity. After her mother’s death, she lived with her grandparents, William and Ann Thomas, on the farm where Carl Chatten now lives. She attended the Houghtonburg School, and had a very sunny disposition, always trying to look on the bright side, and always a happy greeting for her friends and schoolmates. She lived with her grandparents, until her marriage to George A. Cleveland, of Merrillan, on March 19, 1881. Mrs. Cleveland was buried in Riverside Cemetery at Black River Falls, following her death at her home east of that city on Feb. 26th. Her death followed a paralytic stroke from which she never rallied. She reached the age of 77 years and nearly two months, being born on Jan. 1st, 1862. She was a devout Christian mother to seven children. Five of whom are mourning and the other two, with her husband preceded her to the Eternal Home. And there are nineteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who will always revere her memory. For many years, during almost the entire span of her long married life, she was a faithful and dutiful member of the Free Methodist church in Humbird, although not being able to recent years to attend many of its services. There are not many left now who knew her as a school girl in Houghtonburg, but to those few remembrance of her will be ever dear.
