Barker, Marie (29 JUN 1932)

A very quiet wedding took place at Wausau Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock when Miss Marie Barker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Barker, southeast of Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Mr. Gayhart Graffunder, son of Mrs. Herman Graffunder of this village. The ceremony took place at the Wausau courthouse with Justice George Leicht officiating.

The bride was beautifully attired in a pale green flat crepe formal gown, wore a headband of rhinestones and carried a bouquet of roses, carnations and snapdragons. The bridesmaid, Miss Ruby Oehler, wore a flesh colored flat crepe gown and carried a bouquet similar to the bride’s. The groom and his attendant, Elmo Barker, brother of the bride, wore the conventional dark suits.

After the ceremony, wedding pictures were taken at a Wausau studio and the party returned to the home of the bride’s parents, where a delicious wedding dinner was served to the bridal party and immediate family. In the evening a wedding dance was given at the Dorchester Opera House with approximately five hundred people in attendance. Music was furnished by Hrunek’s orchestra.

Both the bride and groom are well known and well liked in this community and we are certain that the happy couple will find joy and friendship wherever they go. The groom, who runs a small farm in Dorchester, will continue to farm and they will occupy his home here in the village. Due to the present busy season they are postponing their wedding trip until later in the year. Their host of friends join with us in wishing them an abundance of happiness and prosperity in their journey through life together.

Those who attended the wedding ceremony at Wausau from here were Fred Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Kramer, Mr. and Mrs. Einer Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Olson and Miss Ruth Olson. Out of town guests here for the event were Mrs. Anna Sprague and Mrs. Walter Malchow and family of Stevens Point.
