Radke, Joseph “Joe” (2 May 1859 – 22 Dec. 1939)

Another pioneer settler of the Houghtonburg territory answered the final summons when Joe Radke passed away last Friday night, Dec. 22nd. Mr. Radke was about 81 years of age and had lived in the vicinity since a young man. For nearly a year he had been confined to his bed and was helpless from a paralytic stroke, and was patiently cared for by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Breitenbach. Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Alma Center Tuesday forenoon and burial was in the church Cemetery.

Joseph Radke passed away at the home of his daughter on Dec. 23, at 12:30 a.m., after an illness of ten months. He suffered a stroke on last Feb. 26, from which he never regained the use of his left side. He was 80 years, 8 months and 21 days of age.

The funeral services were held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Alma Center at 10 o’clock on Tuesday, Dec. 26, the Rev. Fr. Anibas officiating. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Radke was born in Rosie, Germany, May 2, 1859. He came to America in 1882, and located in Jackson County. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and lived a Christian life in that faith.

His wife died sixteen years ago, and a daughter, Bertha, six years ago. He leaves one daughter, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren to mourn his death. He had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Peter Breitenbach, for the past five years. He leaves a wide circle of friends and their deepest sympathy goes to his daughter and other relatives in their sorrow.
