Presher, Sidney Robert (26 Nov. 1896 – 11 Feb. 1940)

Fatally injured when trampled by a four-year-old colt on the farm north of Janesville, where he was employed, Sidney Presher lived only an hour or two after the accident. Death occurred Sunday, Feb. 11th. Just how the injury happened is not known. He was a new employee on the farm, and the horses were not accustomed to his caring for them. He was found with his chest crushed and a skull fracture, and other minor injuries. Mr. Presher had been employed on a farm near where the accident happened for the past several years, and only recently changed to the new job.

Sidney Robert, only child of William and Abigail Barr Presher, was born on his father’s farm near this village, Nov. 26, 1896. As a boy he attended the Wilbur rural school, and after completing the studies there, enrolled in the Humbird High School, from which he graduated with the Class of 1915. He was interested in farming and followed that occupation until the time of his death. He was unmarried, and is survived by two half sisters, Mrs. Henry Jonson, of Granton, and Mrs. Jennie Durham Livingston, of Neillsville, and a number of cousins, besides other relatives. He attained the age of 43 years, 2 months and 15 days. The body was taken to Janesville and prepared for burial, and was brought here Tuesday evening, accompanied by his cousin, Miss I. V. Putman.

The funeral services are being held at the Methodist church this Thursday afternoon. Interment will be in the family lot in Mentor Cemetery.

Funeral services were held for Sidney R. Presher at the Methodist Church last Thursday afternoon, the Rev. C. H. Pierstorff preaching the sermon. The Legion post members formed an escort as Mr. Presher was an ex-service man. He was a member of the 9th Mac. Gun Battalion, going into the service in 1918. Illness kept him in camp, and he was discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa, the following spring. A number of relatives came from away, and former neighbors and friends attended the service. Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.
