Sichler, Margaret (18 June 1843 – 5 Jan. 1934)

Mrs. Rupert Sichler, one of the last old settlers of Jackson County, passed peacefully out of this life, at her home in Garden Valley, on Friday, Jan. 5th, at 2:30 p.m.

Margaret Wolff was born June, 18, 1843, at Lisswith, Bromon, Germany. In 1845 she emigrated with her parents to America, setting in Washington County, Wis., settling on a piece of heavy timbered land forty miles from Milwaukee, and after about fifteen years in Racine County, the family moved to Black River Falls. One Nov. 1, 1860, she was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. Rupert Sichler. To this union then children were born, five of whom have preceded her to the Great Beyond.

They began their married life on the government homestead in Garden Valley, where she has spent all her married life. Here this sturdy pair of young people toiled early and late, enduring uncomplaining many hardships and privations, always with hopes of better times to come.

Mrs. Sichler was a noble woman, who had ill words for none and kind words for all. She always took a kindly interest in her neighbors and friends and was ever ready to do what she could for them. She was a very devoted wife and mother and always took the keenest interest in the welfare of her children. She will be greatly missed by them, and by her friends and neighbors. Mrs. Sichler has been an invalid for the past five years.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church at Alma Center Monday afternoon, Jan. 8, 1934. The remains were laid to rest in the East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center beside those of her husband. She leaves to mourn her death, three daughters, and two sons, Emma and Will Sichler at home, Mrs. Tracy Hanby, Mrs. Mary Ringrose, and Carl Sickler, all of Garden Valley, also four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, besides her nieces and nephews and her relatives and friends.
