Mrs. Geo. Schofield Dies Last Thursday

Funeral services Held Tuesday at the Spencer Methodist Church; Died at Home of Daughter in New York

Mrs. George Schofield, age, 82 years, who had made the community her home for over 65 years, died Thursday morning of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bessie Einfeldt at Houghton, N.Y. where she had lived for the past 11 years. She had been ill since suffering a stroke eight years ago.

The deceased was born in Green county, Wis., as Mary Endora Meacham and came to the town of Unity with her parents as a young girl. She was married to George Schofield in 1882 and had lived in this community for 65 years, 12 of which were spent in Spencer, before going to New York. Mr. Schofield died in Spencer in 1932. Surviving are two sons, Lee on the home farm and Arlie in Spencer, one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Einfeldt of Houghton, N. Y., 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wesley Meacham of Spencer and a sister, Mrs. Cerrie Palen of Sparta.

The body, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Einfeldt, arrived in Spencer Monday and was taken to the Swarthout Funeral Home and on Tuesday was taken to the Methodist church of which Mrs. Schofield was a member. Services were held at the church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Ellery J. Beal officiating, and internment was made in the Spencer cemetery.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral, besides Mrs. Schofield’s daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. ? Einfeldt of Houghton, N.Y., were her sister, Mrs. Carrie Eyler of Sparta; also Mr. and Mrs. Art Eyler and Mrs. ? Cooper of Sparta; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Meacham of Stockton; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Seck of Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fisher of Iron Mountain, Mich.; Mrs. Mary Meacham and Mr. and Mrs. Bernhard Meacham of Colby.
