(? - July 25, 1944) BERNARD FERGUSON FUNERAL ON FRIDAY Former Army Lieutenant Dies Tuesday; Father is Colby Pastor Colby--Bernard Rollin Ferguson, 27, who received his honorable discharge from the Army at Percy Jones General Hospital, Battle Creek, Mich., Oct. 31, 1943, while a first lieutenant in the Army Quartermaster Corps, died Tuesday morning at 6:40 o'clock at St. Luke's Hospital, Racine, where he was a patient for 10 days. Commisioned in 1942 After being drafted for Army service March 7, 1941, Bernard went to Fort Snelling, Minn., and then spent 1 1/2 years in the Quartermaster Corps at Fort Meade, S. Dak. In January, 1942, he went to Camp Lee, Va., for a Quartermaster course, and in June, 1942, left for officers candidate school at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. He was graduated and commissioned as a second lieutenant in ordnance Sept. 19, 1942, and on May 13, 1943, was elevated to the rank of first lieutenant. He spent almost a year at Rossford Ordnance Depot, Toledo, Ohio, before going to Battle Creek. At the time of his death he had an inactive status in the officer's reserve. Parents, Sisters Survive A graduate of Barron High School, Barron, and a graduate in economics from Hamline University, St. Paul, Bernard had worked for several months for the Cosby-Wirth Manifold Company in Minneapolis, until his induction into the armed forces. Surviving besides his parents is a sister, Mrs. Vera Neff, Sparta. His parents at present are in Richland Center, where the body is lying in state at the Pratt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and at the Richland Center Methodisy Church at 2 o'clock. Interment will take plavce in Richland County. |
