Salter, Jane M. (18 Jan. 1889 – 7 Nov. 1944)

Miss Jane Salter, aged 55 years, a well known resident of Unity, who for more than 25 years taught school in Madison passed away Tuesday evening at St. Joseph hospital in Marshfield where she had been a patient since Friday, Nov. 3. She came home from Madison the day previous. Miss Salter, who was born Jan. 18, 1889, taught in Milwaukee and Superior before going to Madison. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jennie Salter of Unity, four sisters, Mrs. Belle Vogt of St. Paul; Mrs. Dorothy Stumpf of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; Mrs. Elizabeth Ebby of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. Marion Tschudy of Monroe; and two brothers, Arthur and Ted Salter, both of Unity.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Unity Methodist church.

Jane M. Salter of Madison, whose death occurred Nov. 7 at Marshfield hospital, were held at the Methodist church in Unity on Saturday, Nov. 11, with Rev. Oates of the Presbyterian church of Marshfield and Rev. M. B. Ferguson of the Unity Methodist church in charge. Internment was made in the Brighton cemetery. Lead Kindly Light and Some Day We’ll Understand were the songs rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Domer of Unity. Surviving relatives are the mother, Mrs. J. W. Salter, four sisters, Mrs. Edwin Vogt of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. James Stumpf of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Harvey Ebby of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mrs. Marion Tschudy of Monroe, Wis.; two brothers, Arthur and Theodore Salter of Unity. Those from away who attended the services were Pearl and Gladys Salter of Prentice; Ruth Johnson, Ella Schulz, Amanda Kluth, Edith Isley and Mr. Sculer, all of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Salter of Colby; Arthur Gallagher, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gallagher of Madison; Mrs. Frederick Osterholdt of Chicago; Robert Tschudy of Monroe, Mrs. Inga Firnstahl, Mrs. Franklin Graham, Mrs. Leo Budahn and Mrs. Hilda Ringquist of Marshfield.

Pall bearers were H. J. Vogt, W. E. Cook, S. A. Cook, M. J. Tennis, M. E. Evenson and N. F. Creed. In charge of the floral offerings were Melvin Swan, Robert Cook and Orville VanSlett.
