(1945) Telegrams have been received from the War Department to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wojcik of Spencer, notifying them of the death of their son, S-Sgt. Stanley B. Wojcik, age 24, on Feb. 2, 1945 on Luzon in the Philippines and of the wounding of another son, Cpl. P. Wojcik, 21, in Belgium. Sgt. Wojcik of the Army Infantry, had been in service since 1939. He enlisted and was stationed for a time in Colorado, and in May 1940, went to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He then went to the South Pacific and a year later to New Zealand. On Jan. 15, 1945, he was sent to the Philippine Islands where he was killed in action. He had received the Good Conduct medal about a year ago and also the Bronze Star. He was born in July 1920. Surviving besides his parents are seven brothers, John of Ogema; Adam and Frank of Milwaukee; Cpl. Peter P. Wojcik, hospitalized in France, and Leo, Theodore and Joseph, at home; three sisters, Mrs. John (Josephine) Iwanski of Port Edwards; Mrs. LeRoy (Leocadia) Kreckloff of Ogema and Miss Anna Wojcik of Milwaukee. Cpl. Peter Wojcik entered service in January 1943 and was first attached to the medical section of the Army Air Force, and then transferred to the parachute division, receiving his wings Dec. 4, 1943. He went overseas in March 1944, taking part in the invasion of France in June. On June 8 he was wounded for the first time, after which he was hospitalized in England for four months. After another four months, he went to Belgium, where he was wounded a second time on Jan. 16, 1945. At present he is in a hospital in France. |
