Campbell, William Edward (28 Aug. 1857 – 21 Aug. 1935)

William Edward Campbell, the youngest son of Isaac and Mary Campbell, was born in Greenbush, Sheboygan County, Wis., on Aug. 28, 1857, and died at his home in this village after a long illness, Aug. 21, 1935, lacking seven days of being 78 years of age.

Mr. Campbell spent his early manhood on his father’s farm near Greenbush, learning the trade of cheese maker when around twenty years of ago.

He came to this vicinity when a young man, and on Feb. 22, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie B. DeLong, by Rev. Wm. Galloway, at the farm home, west of this village, of the bride’s parents. Here they made their home for a short time, until he purchased a building and opened the first cheese factory in the village. Mr. Campbell followed the trade of cheese maker until his health failed, and then located on a tract of wild land east of the village, which became developed into a good farm. This was the family home until they moved into the village in 1912.

The beloved wife and helpmate of fifty years preceded him in death, on July 25th, of this year.

Mr. Campbell is survived by his family of five children, and also by his two brothers, George W., of Marshfield, and Charles M., of Neillsville. His death is mourned also by eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a number of other relatives and friends.

He was a member for many years of the Methodist Episcopal Church in this village. And funeral services were held at the church last Friday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. Floyd Fahlgren preaching the burial sermon. Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.

Relatives from away attending the services were G. W. Campbell, Mrs. Orpha Rogers, Marshfield; C. M. Campbell, Neillsville; Wm. Campbell and wife, Spencer; Mrs. Archie Nelson, Curran Valley; Hillard Russell and family, Blair.
