Leota Bertha Schwantes, 89, formerly of Spencer, died Dec. 9, 1994 at Continental Manor, Abbotsford.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer, with the Rev. David Ault officiating.

Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Spencer. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Community Funeral Home, Spencer, and one hour before the service at the church.

She was born May 19, 1905, in the town of Brighton to Robert and Anna Andre. She attended St. John’s parochial and public schools. She was married to Emil Schwantes on Sept. 16, 1925, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker all of her life.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Ladies’ Aid at the church. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Vila Oelrich of Hudson, Fla., and Carolyn Hopfensperger of Junction City; three sons, Roger of Marshfield and Robert and Arlyn, both of Spencer; two sisters, Hilda Weber of Cedarburg and Norma (Emil) Luepke of Spencer; one brother, Robert Andre of Neenah; 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons, Dennis and Jerald; one daughter, Elaine Koch; and three sisters.
