Hoernke, Selma E. (5 Oct. 1899 – 24 Jun. 1991)

Wien – Services for Mrs. Selma E. Hoernke, 91, a town of Frankfort resident who died at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Colonial House Living Center, Colby, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church (E.C.L.A.) in the town of Wien.

The Rev. Jeffery C. Tarras will officiate. Mrs. Sarah Lemmer will be organist for Roland Totzke, soloist, and for congregational singing.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Heucke, Brian Wilhelm, Alan Hoernke, Robert Veers, Glenn Holbach and William Martyn.

Visitation will be at Sauter / Kundinger Funeral Home, Stratford at 5 p.m. today and again until 9 a.m. Thursday and then at the church from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday.

She was born Oct. 5, 1899, in the town of Wien, Marathon County, to the late George and Caroline (Mueller) Lueschow. She attended school in the town of Wien.

She was married to Ernest C. Hoernke May 24, 1921, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He died April 12, 1985.

She and her husband farmed in the town of Frankfort, Marathon County, most of their lives. They retired in 1984. After retirement, she continued to reside on the farm and then lived in Marshfield before she became a resident of the Living Center in May 1990.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Franklin Homemakers Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (LaVerne) Bornowski of Stratford and Mrs. Earl (Lucille) Theobald of Sheboygan Falls; one son, George of Stratford; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was also predeceased by one brother, one grandson, Terry Hoernke, in 1961, and one great-grandson.
