Greenwood – March 17, 1882

Editors Times: Last week we forgot to pen our weekly communication until too late for press, but as local items were very scarce, we excuse ourselves and will try and forget no more.

Out last fall of snow is being utilized for all it is worth in the logging camps. Those who had broken camp are rushing all the teams back they can procure and will clear the skids at least, of which they were loaded with many millions all along the meandering Black River and tributaries thereto.

Mrs. W. H. Begley, of Butte City, Montana, returned to her former home, Greenwood, about a week ago. She has been gone some two year from this place, and has returned to stay with us again and is now stopping with us again and is now stopping with her son George, who is doing a lively grocery trade.

J. A. Honeywell, who has been to Spencer in business for the last two years is now moving back to his old home in Greenwood.

Thus is it, while some go others return and keep all places filled.

John Vine has taken a large contract to put in stave bolts at the stave factory. He will work some fifteen men all summer.

Mary Huntzicker, who has been to LaCrosse completeing her musical education has returned home. The county boasts of no finer musician.

John Syth has just lost a fine draft horse by pinkeye.

Dr. Thomas was going west of the river yesterday with Eaton’s wild Nell hitched to a cutter, when the front of the cutter caught in a protruding obstruction from the road side, causing the cutter and Dr. to go over endwise under the horse’s heels, but as fortune would have it, he escaped with but few injuries, while the harness and cutter were more seriously damaged and the horse came flying home with none but her own sweet will to guide her.
