Greenwood – May 5, 1882

Editors Times: Trade along the line is very quiet, as every available man, and some of the women and children, are all busily engaged in agricultural pursuits while the weather is dry, yet terribly cold, for water congeals to the thickness of half an inch almost nightly.

Mrs. S. M. Andrews and her son Dudley left last Monday for a two week’s trip to Huron, Dakota, on a visit to Mrs. Andrew’s daughter, Mary Anderson. Upon their return Dudley Andrews will commence an engagement for a year or longer with A. S. Eaton.

Monday noon the seething flames were notices a mile south of the village consuming the log house of Chas. Lincoln. It went up in smoke together with all of his worldly effects. The fire caught from a piece of paper set on fire in the year by Mr. Lincoln, he being so near blind that he could not tell whether it was all out when he dropped it on the ground or not, but as it happened the fire was not, but as it happened the fire was not all out and it being a windy day the paper blew against the house with results as started above.

Wednesday last W. H. Begley, from Butler City, Montana, arrived in our village after an absence of several years. Greenwood was his old camping ground for many a year before he left for Montana. Father Time has apparently used him well, for he wears just as young a look as he did when he left here.

The score of last Saturdays shoot out of a possible thirty at the new Patent Puff Ball stood as follows:

A. S. Eaton twenty-nine; Len Eastman twenty-six; Jac Smith twenty one.

Wednesday last a flock of Brandt, some forty in number, passed over this village very low down, apparently bewildered and lost. They alighted on the ground a mile south of town, in John Shank’s field. He got his gun out and fired, falling short of his mark, they took wing, and with three more shots, while in flight one was shot through the body and fell to **Rest cut off. **
