Greenwood – July 21, 1882

Editors Times: Robert Schofield and wife returned to day after an extended trip in the Lake Superior region, across the country to Dakota and elsewhere. They made a two day’s sojourn with B. F. Brown and family at Lake Altamont, Dakota, and say he has as beautiful a place as they ever saw, with a belt of timber, skirted by smooth lakes, and their broad acres all checked over with flocks and herds, while the growing crops look simply grand, all going to form a rural picture of farm life on the great prairies of the west.

Reports from the American Field say Dakota is teaming with countless numbers of young ducks and prairies chickens.

Mrs. O. E. Weston and Mrs. Parker guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Weston, have returned to their home, Dubuque, Iowa.

Miss Bryden, a sister, of Jas. Bryden, is now visiting at his home in this place.

Jas. Bryden is about starting for the pine timber belted woods up north of us, where he will remain a couple of weeks looking over the timber.

Lindsay and Meyers, of Neillsville, have taken the job by hauling stave bolts, formerly taken by Weston & Schofield. G. W. Hubbell is boss of the job.

Haying is generally commenced, but the grass is not yet ready for cutting and rains ever day will contributed to a lot of musty hay next winter.

A call for a reunion meeting to be held at Neillsville, Aug. 4, has been issued and liberally signed by the boys who wore the blue. Two years have passed away since a reunion was held in Neillsville, and by the spirit actuated in the moves in this enterprise is seems that we can this fall have a reunion that will be worthy of the spirit calling it together. It is desired that all, both soldiers and citizens, who love loyalty better than treason, will be present at this first meeting and show by their presence that we will have a reunion such as Neillsville never dreamed of. I will pledge you this town will turn out en mosses, and help swell the grand throng with their presence and with liberal support. We all have the hallowed folds of the old flag, and want to commemorate the dearest principle on earth – for which our boys fought in the late rebellion. Come up from the valleys, fields, shops and stores and help us.

Sam Jones and wife have just arrived in town for a week’s stay.
