Greenwood – 24 Nov. 1882

Editors Times: A few inches of snow covers the earth and our loggers are rushing business by way of getting supplies and men into the woods. M. B. Warner has just secured a large contract and will start for the woods tomorrow morning.

R. C. Jones and J. C. Hussey were in town yesterday, and we learn by mail tonight that J. C. Hussey’s foundry and machine shop were consumed by fire before his return home at the Falls.

Ed Eaton’s saw mill at Longwood is completed, or so far advanced that is it running, with Hastings Baird as foreman. We hope, and he promise that the external scarcity of lumber with which we are afflicted will be discontinued, for he soon will have a stock, and keep one too on hand for sale.

Mary Phippin, the artist, lost her pocket book on the way to Spencer, with $35 in cash, therein. Any person finding and returning the same will be generously rewarded.

B. F. Brown, one of our former land marks, has sold his Dakota farm, six hundred and twenty-seven acres, together with stock, machinery and trappings, all for the snug sum of $10,600 and will be in Greenwood again very soon. It would take a heap of Dakota land to be worth $10,000 in my estimation.

Our merchants were never more busy not even time to call upon a neighboring store and the writer has no time to look up locals or even write them after they are looked up.

Von Goth.
