News: Greenwood (26 Dec. 1882) Surnames: McMahon, Tillon, Pfaff, Mead, Johnson, Eaton, Brown, Sheehan, Marshall, Baird Source: Neillsville Times (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 26 Dec. 1882 Greenwood (22 Dec. 1882) Editors Times: Last evening found Dolf McMahon back upon our streets, just returning from Chicago where he has been taking a course of medical studies. He is always genial and pleasant and ever welcome. As the returning frosts and snows come, so we see the familiar faces of the corps of log scalers also returning, among whom a Re: W. H. Tillon, Sones, and Young, all from La Crosse. The weather has been rainy and soft for a few days past but is at this writing growing a little cooler. L. O. Pfaff, the baker and confectioner combined has returned from a visit to Mauston, bringing with him a brother. Frank Mead with his “nobby” uniform on, has returned from Galesville school to participate in the festivities of the holidays. There will be a public Christmas tree in the M. E. Church Sabbath evening. Geo. M. Johnson, of the firm of Jones Bros. & Johnson, is now absent in Winona, visiting his family. A. S. Eaton, is selling store front glass at $3 per light, for the benefit of the sporting fraternity. The sound of the smith’s hammer and the light of the merchant’s lamp, is heard and seen early and late in our thrifty hamlet. Brown is whisking up and down our streets with his new cutter. Pat Sheehan has paid $2.25 for tobacco license and has purchased a white horse; its name is the Gray Eagle. It’s one of the sooner kind. Wm. Marshall, a former resident of Greenwood, but now of Dakota is here to see the boys once again. He has grown as portly as a bishop, and is looking well. Hastings Baird bought him a nice fine stove and outfit at A. S. Eaton’s, and has gone with his family to Curtiss, eight miles east of Withee, to live. -- Von Goth. |
