Surnames: Schwantes, Kammers, Manthe, Greeler, Pockat, Bruss, Naedler, Stapel ---Source: Marshfield News Herald (Marshfield, Wood Co., Wis.) 09/21/1936 Schwantes, August (9 Dec. 1874 – 20 Sept. 1936) Spencer – Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church for August Schwantes, who died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 12:30 a.m. Sunday at his farm home four miles east of Spencer, in the town of Brighton. The Rev. A. C. Stapel will officiate, and burial will be made in the North cemetery. A service at 1:30 p.m. will be held at home. August Schwantes was born Dec. 9, 1874, at Mayville, Wis. For the past 40 years, he farmed in this vicinity, with the exception of about six years when he resided in the village of Spencer. On June 16, 1898, he was married to Miss Helen A. Cammers. Surviving him besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Laura Manthe, Mrs. Myrtle Greeler, and two sons, Emil and Alvin, all of Spencer, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Ida Pockat and Mrs. Anna Pockat, Marion; Mrs. Amelia Bruss, Colby; and Mrs. Minnie Greeler, Neillsville; one step-sister, Mrs. William Naedler, Granton; and three brothers, William, Colby; Otto, Clintonville; and Herman, Spencer; and three half brothers, Arthur, Minneapolis; Harry, New York; and Roy, Madison. One son preceded him in death. |
