Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hansen Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church.

Roger was born Aug. 5, 1932, in the town of Brighton, a son of Emil and Leota (Andre) Schwantes. He attended Harding School. Following his education, he worked on local farms and at Mid-State Truck.

Roger served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1956. He was stationed in Korea. He was discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant.

After his military service, Roger returned to the area and worked for Rollohome. In 1963, Roger purchased the Sinclair station and operated Roger’s ARCO Service until 1972. After selling the station, he worked for Bauman’s Bank until 1994. In retirement, he worked at Mid-State Truck doing “parts runs” and maintenance.

He was united in marriage on Aug. 5, 1973, to the former Marcella Leffel.

Roger was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and performed maintenance at the church for nearly 20 years. He was an active member of American Legion Post No. 54 and Elks Lodge No. 665. He also enjoyed gardening, occasional trips to the casino, spending time with grandchildren, family and friends.

Roger is lovingly survived by his wife Marcella, his children, Rochelle (Brian) Weeks of Marshfield; Randy Schwantes of Stratford, Cheryl (Andy) Schofield-Dahl of Spencer; Mark (Denise) Eiberg of Marshfield, Randy (Tabitha) Eiberg of Stratford and Tracy (Paul) Severt of Marshfield.
