Schwartz, Joseph (20 June 1860 – 4 Jan. 1932)

Joseph Schwartz, respected farmer of Henderson, Minnesota, formerly Colby, passed away at his home on Monday, January 4th, hardening of the arteries being the cause of his departure, after a short illness. The deceased was a kind, upright citizen and was held in high regard in the community. He attained the age of seventy-one years, six months and fifteen days.

The deceased was born June 20th, 1860, at School Hill, Manitowoc county, Wisconsin. When a boy of eight years of age he removed to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, with his parents, and, at the age of twenty-one years, he traveled back to Wisconsin where he worked for an uncle for about two years. In 1883, he was united in marriage to Mary Leporten of School Hill, Wis., who were blessed with six children of whom two passed away. In 1909, the family moved on a farm at Colby where they resided until 1919 when Mr. Schwartz sold his farm and removed to Shakopee, Minnesota, where they lived a short time. About ten years ago he and his wife removed to the little farm near Henderson where they resided up to the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, and four children, namely: two sons, John, of Dorchester, Wis., and Frank of Hopkins, Minnesota; two daughters, Mrs. Ed. Billeb, of Colby; and Mrs. Wm. Habeck of Shakopee, Minn. He is also survived by ten grand children, four brothers, John of North Minneapolis; Chas. Of New Ulm; Peter and August of Sleepy Eye; four sisters, Mrs. E. Lehmann of Sleepy Eye; Mrs. N. Fass of New Ulm; Mrs. G. Newmann of Wood Lake; Mrs. George Eastmann of Minneapolis and Mrs. R. Wolf of Chicago.
