Obit: Quackenboss, Chester A. #2 (1848? – 1897)
Surnames: QUACKENBOSS ---Source: NEILLSVILLE TIMES (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 04/08/1897 Quackenboss, Chester A. #2 (1848? – 3 APR 1897) Chester A. Quackenboss, a farmer living out in York (Clark Co., Wis.), suicided last Saturday by taking nearly half a pint of carbolic acid. Homer King sent his boy over to the Quackenboss farm on an errand, when the lad found the man, who was a lonely bachelor, lying. He left a letter directing that his property be given to a brother. No motive is known for the rash act, as he was in fair circumstances, and everybody supposed, reasonably happy, as earthly things go. He was a man of middle age. Our York correspondent adds the following: Some of the neighbors saw him walking over his fields at about 12 o’clock P.M. He was found lying in his bed in an unconscious condition, and died shortly after. Medical aid was summoned, but he was beyond the aid of human help. It is believed that he did the act in a fit of despondency. For several years past he has been partly deranged and his mind wandered at times. He left a will, written by himself, leaving his property to his brother David, who resides at Plymouth, this state. He lived along. He leaves a father and three brothers, who live at Colby, Plymouth and St. Cloud. David arrived Monday. The funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the M.E. Church, Rev. E.L. Jaquish officiating. The remains were interred in the York Center Cemetery. Deceased was about 48 years of age, and quite well to do. |
