(15 Apr. 1910 – 8 Aug. 1996) Neillsville – Evelyn C. Schwantes, 86, of Neillsville, passed away at 1:35 a.m. Aug. 8, 1996, at the Neillsville Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jenny Schroeder will officiate the service. Organist will be Iris Musil. Burial will take place at the Neillsville City Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers will be David Schwantes, Travis Schwantes, Bill Schwantes, Lance Plummer, David Rice and John DeBauche. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and again one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Mrs. Schwantes was born April 15, 1910, in Auburndale to Ole and May (Conkling) Sivertson. She attended Auburndale and Marshfield schools and the university in Stevens Point. After her education, she was a primary grade teacher at Curtiss for three years before her marriage. She was married to Donald A. Schwantes on June 12, 1933, in Auburndale. He passed away on Aug. 25, 1988. She worked as a substitute teacher after their marriage and in the office at the Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a Patron of the Clark County Humane Society and the Neillsville Library. She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1983. She lived in Neillsville all of her married life. She aided in organizing the Neillsville Cub Scouts and Job’s Daughters. She was a past Matron of Carmi Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star and served in many areas of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Neillsville United Methodist Church, past president of the Ladies League at the Neillsville Country Club and two time golf champion. She is survived by three sons, Richard (Margit) Schwantes of Marina del Ray, Calif., Terry (Norma) Schwantes of Bloomington, Minn.; and Jeff, (Mary) Schwantes of Lakeville, Minn.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Knutson and Olive Irving, both of Wisconsin Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and one infant brother and sister. Evelyn had a wonderful spirit that touched all who knew her. She was a generous, caring and loving person who will be in our hearts forever. Memorials in her name may be made to the Clark County Humane Society. Social Security Death Record Evelyn
