(22 APR 1900 8 MAR 1934) Mrs. Ed Beck, residing three miles east, one-half mile south of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), died this morning, following the birth of a baby girl. She was 33 years of age and leaves to mourn her sudden death, her husband, one son, Gale, and baby daughter, besides her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harshman of Fall City, one sister, Mrs. Paul Vasey of Menomonie and one brother of Fall City. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Chapel. (Follow on in 3/15/1934 Owen Enterprise) Alta Genevieve Harshman was born April 22, 1900, at Fall City, Wis. She attended the rural school at Fall City and later graduated from the Dunn County School of Agriculture, also attending the Eau Claire Teachers College one year, after which she taught two years in Dunn County and one year in Clark County. She was always religiously inclined, even showing this in her childhood play and afterwards always taking an intense interest in religious work. She became a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She was united in marriage to Carl Edwin Beck Jr., Aug. 2, 1922, and thereafter resided on their farm at Owen. Shortly after coming to Owen to live she, together with other Christian people of this neighborhood were instrumental in organizing a Sunday school from which developed the present Rural Union Chapel. She passed away March 9, 1934 at the Legault Hospital at Owen and leaves to mourn her loss, Her husband, one son, Gail Edwin, and an infant daughter, Alta Lona Vern, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harshman, and brother, Boyd, of All City, a sister, Mrs. Paul Vasey of Menomonie, Wis., and a host of relatives and friends for to know her was to love her. Funeral services were held from Rural Union Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, Rev. Crandall of Merrillan and Rev. Stevens of the Church of the Nazarene at Forest Center, jointly conducting the services. Those attending the funeral from away were Mrs. Fred Harshman, Mr. and Mrs. S. Larrabee, Clifford, June, Helen, Harold, Charlie, Lieman and Bradford Larrabee, Mrs. Dick Powers, Mrs. Jack McKay and daughter, Maxine, Rev. and Mrs. E.E. Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Larrabee and family, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Larrabee, Mr. and Mrs. James DeMoe, Mr. and Mrs. Harry DeMoe and son, Fred, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Saxton, Mrs. Ray Cummings, Mrs. Fred Goercke, all from Fall City; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grutt, Mrs. Hazel McLymen, Menomonie; Mrs. Emil Jensen, Joseph Vermilyea, Miss Gertrude Roneberg, Elk Mound; Rev. and Mrs. J.D. Crandall, Mrs. Mamie Morechick, Merrillan; Miss Harriet Roneberg, Miss Bertina Honaas, Wausau; Miss Esther Berger, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lycen, Hammond, Wis.; Mrs. John Hart and son, Westley, St. Paul, Minn.; Roy Adams of Chippewa Falls. Over 60 families sent floral offerings. Interment was made at Riverside Cemetery. |
