Rogers, Hugh C. (? – 17 July 1885)

Rogers – In this city, July 17th, of dropsy and blood-poisoning, Hugh C. Rogers, aged 49 years.

The deceased came into the Black River Valley, about thirty years ago, and was well known by many citizens of La Crosse, Neillsville and Merrillan. All who has formed this acquaintance speak of him as being an honest, industrious, liberal minded and patriotic man and citizen. He was married about three months ago to Mrs. J. H. Clapp, of this city, and had resided here since that time. He had been confined to his bed by sickness for about two months, bearing his suffering with patient resignation.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Opera Hall, and was largely attended. Rev. R. Trewarths officiated, assisted by Rev. G. W. L. Brown. The funeral was conducted with the rites of the Masonic fraternity, of which he was member. He also belonged to the G. A. R. Post at Merrillan, and nine of the members of that post came down to attend the funeral. Several Masons from La Crosse were present. A larger number of the members of the local G. A. R. Post attended in a body. – Black River Falls Banner.
