Leason, Almina #2 (29 OCT 1842 – 24 AUG 1900)

Mrs. A.S. Leason died at the home on the north side (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) on Friday, Aug. 24, 1900, from the effects of heat prostration, with which he was stricken on Friday, Aug. 10th, and from which she only partially rallied during the two weeks until her death, which took place suddenly. She had been sitting propped up in bed, chatting with those about her, stoutly maintaining that she was going to improve right along, and saying that she was without pain – “Not quite, though,” she corrected, “there’s pain right here,” putting her finger to her forehead. A moment later she laid back, saying, “I can’t stand that,” and passed away.

She was born Almina Caldwell, at Cicero, Onondaga, Co., N.Y., Oct. 29, 1842; came to Wisconsin with her parents in 1844, living in Waukesha Co., Washington Co., where she was married Feb. 27, 1850, to Mr. Leason, and at Hingham, Sheboygan Co., moving here in 1880, on Aug. 22. She leaves two sons, Will and Ralph, and the adopted daughter, Mrs. Letta Nason, who has hurried to take up the mother’s household duties.

Mrs. Leason was one of the very best women in the world – “Mother Leason,” the young people were fond of calling her, -- sunny in temperament, ambitious, always willing to do more than her share of work, which she went about with a merry twinkle of the eye and a laugh that lightened the toil. In conversation she was witty and bright, and in all respects one of the people the world cannot afford to lose, and the community suffers with those more immediately stricken. Mr. Leason and the family have fellow mourners in all who ever knew her.

The funeral was held Monday, at the house, T. Grafton Owen officiating.
