Slater, William (2 March 1818 – 1 May 1887)

Slater – At the residence of his son, in Neillsville, Wis., Sunday evening, May 1, 1887, Mr. Wm. Slater, aged ?? [aged blurred.]

Mr. Slater’s illness was brief but severe. For several years he has been very much crippled with rheumatism; but in spite of all his sufferings, he was able to appear on the streets day after day, until sometime last week. Summoned by a telegram, his son George and his daughter, Mrs. Rufnow, arrived on Sunday morning, just in time to be recognized by the dying man.

The burial took place today at the Greenwood Cemetery, where Mrs. Slater was buried some 13 years ago. The funeral sermon will be preached in the Presbyterian church of Neillsville on Sunday morning next.

Mr. Slater was an old solider. He has been a resident of Clark County for many years. After the death of his wife he left his farm in the town of Eaton, and came to Neillsville. He was a man of immense weight, and his venerable form will be much missed on the streets. Genial in nature and industrious in his habits, he had many warm friends in this region who sympathize with the family in their deep affliction.
