Hinker, Barbara (4 Dec. 1905 – 15 June 1998)

Greenwood – Barbara Hinker, 92, Greenwood, died at 4:23 a.m. June 15, 1998, at the Neillsville Memorial Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood with the Rev. Joseph Follmar officiating.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rinka Funeral Home in Greenwood. There will be a 7:30 p.m. prayer service and a Knights of Columbus Rosary service at 8 p.m., both Wednesday at the funeral home.

Barbara Pink was born Dec. 4, 1905, in Bloomington to Henry and Clara (nee Udelhafen) Pink. She was raised and educated in Bloomington. After graduating from high school she attended Platteville Normal School for two years and received her teaching certificate. She then taught school in Boscobel for three years and in Loyal for two years.

She and Slyvester Hinker were united in marriage on May 9, 1933, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. It was in Greenwood that the couple farmed and raised their 10 children. She remained on the farm until 1986 at which time she moved into Greenwood and lived at the Black River Apartments. In 1997 she entered the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville and resided there until her death.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Society, and was made an honorary member of the Greenwood High School Booster Club for her years of volunteer work. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sports and crocheting.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Lester) Kaiser of Stratford; eight sons, Jerry (Marlene) Hinker of Greenwood, Gene (Marilyn) Hinker of Loyal; Ronald (Audrey) Hinker of Wausau; Jim (Carolyn) Hinker of Greenwood; Francis (Corrine) Hinker of Marshfield; Allen (Sandra) Hinker, Robert (Donna) Hinker and Bill Hinker, all of Greenwood; 30 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Hinker of Cape May, N.J.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 12, 1972; by a son, Larry Hinker, her parents, two brothers, Fred and Charles Pink, and by her sister, Magdaline Graunke.
