Johnson, Elsie #2 (26 Dec. 1866 – 18 Jan. 1937)

Mrs. Fred Johnson passed away Monday, Jan. 18, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Gottschalk, in the town of Colby. Funeral services will be held at the house Friday afternoon at two o’clock and internment made in the Green Grove cemetery. Obituary will be printed next week.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Johnson, whose death was reported last week were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Gottschalk, in the town of Colby Friday, January 22nd, Rev. Anderson of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Curtiss officiating, and internment was made in the Green Grove cemetery. Pall bearers were Ernest Rahn, John Miller, Richard Wiegman, John Scheer, D. R. McDonald, and John Augustine. Flower girls were Josephine Stowe, Alvina Gottschalk, Florence Stowe, all grand children, and Viola Gosse.

The deceased was born in Hoff, Norway, Dec. 26, 1866, thus reaching the age of seventy years and twenty-three days. She came to the United States in 1887 and lived in Jackson county until 1898. She was married to Frederick Johnson in Rhinelander on May 10th, 1890, and they moved onto their farm in the town of Green Grove in 1898 where she lived until Dec. 13, when she moved to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Gottschalk and where she passed on to the heavenly goal January 18, 1937, dropsy and heart attack of five days duration being the cause of her death.

The deceased is survived by three children – Mrs. Rufus Stowe of Unity, Oscar Johnson of Colby and Mrs. Wm. Gottschalk of Colby. Also thirteen grand children and a brother and sister, Severt O. Erickson and Mrs. Even Anderson, both of Melrose.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Even Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Olson and Severt O. Erickson, all of Melrose.

The deceased was a good Christian and always endeavored to do her duty as she saw it and always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She was of a friendly disposition and made friends easily so after a long, busy and useful life, she will be missed by all who knew her.
