Roder, Alois (10 Aug. 1876 – 14 July 1937)

Alois Roder fell down from the porch at his home Tuesday morning at about 1:30 and sustained concussion of the spine. After being given medical attention here in Colby, he was taken to the Marshfield hospital where he died Wednesday night at 9:30. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s church. Foresters and members of the Holy Name Society will attend in a body.

Funeral services for Alois Roder, who died Wednesday night, July 14, after suffering a concussion of the spine when he fell off the porch at his home, were held Saturday morning at 10:00 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church. The solemn requiem high mass was sung by his brother, Rev. Alphonse Roder of Kaukauna, and another brother, Rev. Joseph Roder of Ramson, Iowa, and Rev. L. J. Lang, local pastor, served respectively as deacon and sub deacon. Internment was made in the parish cemetery. Honorary pall bearers were H. J. Hein, Thomas Mallak, Michael Martin, George Steinwand, Joseph Stadtmueller and William Rusch. Active pall bearers were John Wolf, Charles Kesler, Louis Jakel, Elroy Gutenberger, Frank Gierl and E. W. Schultz.

The deceased was born in Germany Aug. 10th, 1876, and emigrated to the United States when a young man. He lived for a short time in the east and then returned to Germany. Later he came back to the United States and several years later located in Chicago where he was married on February 16, 1909, to Miss Magdalene Leick and where they lived about eighteen months. They later lived at Granville, Ia., for nearly six years and twenty-one years ago they located on a farm in the town of Colby.

Surviving are his widow, five children, Ernest and Miss Delores Roder, at home, and Mrs. Lawrence Reichard, Mrs. Earl Grosklaus and Miss Bernadette Roder of Milwaukee. Also three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Anna Schmidt, Sister M. Margaret and Thomas Roder, all of Luxemburg, Germany, Miss Mary Roder and Rev. Alphonse Roder of Kaukauna and Rev. Joseph Roder of Ramson, Ia. The deceased was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and of the Holy Name Society.
