Elchlepp, Charles (20 Feb. 1867 – 23 Apr. 1938)

Charles Elchlepp, a former resident of Colby who left this city twenty-seven years ago, died at his home in Phillips Saturday at the age of seventy-one years, a stroke being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at Phillips Tuesday and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Colby pall bearers were C. Joe Kraus, Herman Wiedenhoeft, Aug. Schoelzel, John Pribnow, Wm. Singstock and E. A. Fleischauer. The deceased is survived by his second wife, one son, Arnold Elchlepp of Minneapolis, and two daughters, Mrs. Ray O’Keefe of Stevens Point and Mrs. Carl Preuss of Milwaukee. Also three step children – Theodore Ohlinger of Stevens Point, Allie Ohlinger of Tacoma, Washington, and Alvina Fields of Park Falls; four brothers and one sister – Louie Elchlepp of Stevens Point, Hugo Elchlepp of Abbotsford, Mrs. George Gray of Eau Claire, William Elchlepp in Oregon and Albert Elchlepp in Minnesota.

The deceased was born in Germany February 20, 1867, and at the age of nine years came to the United States with his parents. He was married to Lena Orth in Colby January 4th, 1904. He was a member of the Germania Lodge of Colby, and, at the time of his death, was a teamster at the Phillips saw mill.

The deceased will be remembered by many old timers as a man of good habits, a hard worker and of a pleasing and congenial disposition.

Ohlinger of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Ray O’Keefe of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Preuss and children of Milwaukee, Arnold Ohlinger of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Herrmann of Columbus, Wis., Mrs. Wm. Herrmann and sons, Alfred and Eugene, of Curtiss, Mrs. Galen Pipcorn of Riplinger.
