Obit: Salter, Frank J. #2 (1857 – 1938)
Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 08/04/1938 Salter, Frank J. (17 Mar. 1857 – 24 July 1938) Frank J. Salter, a former citizen of Colby and well and favorably known here, died at Prentice where funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church Friday, July 29, and where burial was made. The deceased was born at Jackson, Wis., March 17, 1857, thus reaching the age of eighty-one years, four months and seven days. He came to Colby in 1882 but moved to Prentice in 1891. He was married to Miss Carrie Rensimer at Unity, Wis., October 5, 1885, to which union five children were born. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and one son, namely – Pearl Salter of Prentice, Gladys Salter of Prentice, Mrs. Kyle Purdy of Los Angeles, Calif., and Russel Salter of Baguis, P.I. Also two brothers and one sister: M. D. Salter of West Bend, Wis., T. W. Salter of West Bend, Wis., and Mrs. James Harris of St. Paul, Minn. The deceased was a druggist by profession and was prominent in education and politics. He was held in high esteem by his fellow citizens and held offices of village president, village clerk and school clerk for several terms. He was past master of the Odd Fellows lodge. Many older Colby people remember him as an honest and congenial citizen whose life and conduct would suffer no reproach to be on his character as a fellow citizen or husband and father. The deceased was an uncle of R. S. Salter of Colby and he and Mrs. Salter attended the funeral services Friday. |
