Kobs, Julius (13 May 1862 – 23 Aug. 1938)

Julius Kobs passed away Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock at his home in Colby at the age of seventy-six years, three months and 23 days after an illness of ten days, uremic complications being the cause of his death. Funeral services will be conducted at the Zion Lutheran church in Colby Friday afternoon, August 26th, at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Kobs was born in Germany and came to the United States with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kobs, when six months of age. They settled at Milwaukee where they lived until 1876 when they moved onto a wild tract of land in the town of Colby which the deceased helped his parents clear and build into a splendid farm. He was married to Miss Mary Marquardt at Green Grove on December 3, 1890. Nine months after his marriage, he purchased his parents’ farm and purchased another farm which he managed until twenty-nine years ago when he sold the farm and purchased another farm in the town of Green Grove. He conducted this farm until fifteen years ago when he sold it and he and his wife and children moved to the city of Colby.

Surviving are his wife and seven children, namely – Evelyn Krueger of Chicago, Walter Kobs of Chicago, Alvine Keiner of Chicago, Hugo Kobs of Granton, Dorothy Wuggazer of Center Line, Mich., Hilma Roy of Chicago and Hilda Normholm of Chicago. Also fourteen grand children and one brother, Henry Kobs of Milwaukee and two sisters, Minnie Bleichroth and Bertha Grambort of Colby.

With his departure, another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our early pioneers. He was a good Christian and a man of generous impulses who never forgot the hospitable ways of the early settlers. He had borne adversity bravely and enjoyed prosperity quietly. He had filled the various relations of life as son, husband, father, brother, friend and filled them well.

Funeral services for Julius Kobs were held at the Zion Lutheran church Friday afternoon, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were George and Fred Kobs, Norman and Harold Kobs, Norman Kobs and Gilbert Grambort. Flower girls were Mildred, Vivian, Doris, Dorothy and Wilma Marquardt and Lois Huhn.

Out of town people here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Krueger, Mr. and Mrs. W. Kobs, Mr. and Mrs. A. Keiner, Mr. and Mrs. L. Roy, Mr. and Mrs. T. Kobs of Granton, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kobs of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Nannie Kobs and son, Norman, Mrs. Elsie Purkis and Mrs. Roy Hudson, all of Unity, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. A. Kurth and Mr. and Mrs. L. Kobs of Granton, Wis., Mr. A. Marquardt of Atwood, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. H. Marquardt and family of Marathon, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marquardt and family of Athens, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marquardt and family of Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
