Brandt, 71, of 3200 Water St. No. 125, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at St. Michael's Hospital after a long battle with diabetes. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Boston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth G. Knutson officiating. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until time of service Saturday. Gerald was born on June 11, 1932, in Withee to the late Floyd and Norma (Mattes) Brandt. He grew up and attended high school in Withee. Gerald joined the U.S. Air Force on June 3, 1950, in Minneapolis. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged on Nov. 20, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. After serving in the military, he lived in Milwaukee and worked as a car salesman. He was married to Alvon K. Hammerstad on Aug. 21, 1962, in Naperville, Ill. Following his wedding, he moved to Stevens Point, where he worked as a car salesman for Jacobs Ford, G.A. Gullikson Co. and then Scaffidi Motors, retiring in the mid-1980s. Following retirement, he continued to work part-time. Gerald was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was an avid Packers fan, enjoyed the out of doors, enjoyed polkas, and most of all enjoyed his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Alvon; a daughter, Lori (Steve) Bartha of Wausau; three sons, Mike of Oshkosh, Greg of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Brian (Lisa) of Stevens Point. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, Megan and Brad Bartha of Wausau, Toni and Brooke Brandt of Stevens Point, Nicole and Noelle Brandt of Minocqua, and Dustin and Jennifer Brandt of Colorado Springs. He was preceded in death by one infant brother and his parents.
