Anne C. Hillery, age 96, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at the Rutledge Home in Chippewa Falls.

Anne was born January 11, 1910, on a Clark County, Wis., farm, the fourth of seven children. She was the second daughter of Joseph and Katherine Zielanis, who immigrated to this country through Ellis Island, N.Y., from Lithuania and Poland.

Anne graduated from Pineland School, Thorp High School, and from the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Marshfield, Wis., class of 1932. Anne was united in marriage to Fred L. Hillery on August 26, 1939, at St. Mary’s Church, Chicago, Ill. At that time, she was employed as a registered nurse at Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood, Ill. The family moved from Chicago to a farm in Withee, Wis., in 1948, and then to Chippewa Falls in 1953.

Mrs. Hillery was employed as a nurse at the Northern Center from 1953 until her retirement in 1973. Anne was active in the RN Club and the Building 1 group at the Northern Center.

Mrs. Hillery was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

After retiring in 1973, she became a member of the Chippewa Gem and Mineral Club, and enjoyed lapidary work. Anne did much sewing, knitting and crocheting at her home in Chippewa Falls. She was active in the Chippewa Wildlife Society, and enjoyed watching birds at her many feeders. Anne lived in her home until the age of 95 before moving to the Rutledge Home in 2005.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathi (Jim) Mandelert of Chippewa Falls; two sons, John Hillery of Pewaukee, Wis., and Allen (Julie) Hillery of Boulder Junction, Wis.; one grandson, Sgt. Mitchell Mandelert; and a step grandson, David Hunzicker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, in August of 1998; three brothers, Leon, Alfred and Stanley; and three sisters, Helen, Elvina and Jeanette.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Holy Ghost Church in Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Edmund Doerre will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Entombment will be in Hope Mausoleum, Chippewa Falls.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 1, and until 10 a.m. Saturday at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. There will be a Christian vigil service at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
