Obit: Hoppa, Martha (1879 – 1940)
---Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 04/18/1940 Hoppa, Martha (15 Aug. 1879 – 15 Apr. 1940) Mrs. Frank Hoppa, who had been ill for several months, died at the age of sixty years Monday afternoon shortly after four o’clock at the home of her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schultz, with whom she had been staying since her return from the Marshfield hospital where she had been a patient for five weeks. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic church Friday morning at 9:30, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating. Mrs. Hoppe, whose maiden name was Martha Schreiber, was born in Germany on August 15th, 1879, and came to the United States with her parents when three years of age. They settled in Chicago where she was married on July 14th 1895, to Frank Hoppa. About 26 years ago they came to Marathon county and engaged in farming near Milan. They lived in Colby about five years. Surviving are her husband, two sons and four daughters – Arnold Hoppa of Neillsvill, George Hoppa of Milwaukee, Mrs. Rolo Collier of Santa Cruz, Calif.; Mrs. Herbert Firnstahl and Mrs. Donald Schultz of the town of Hull and Mrs. Harold Reeves of Abbotsford. Also three brothers – John, Paul and Bernard Schreiber of Milan. There are eight grand children. Mrs. Hoppa was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Mary’s Catholic church. She was a good Christian and her life was gentle. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need – both in acts of kindness and in words.
