Sill, Arnold (18 Apr. 1905 – 6 June 1942)

Arnold Sill died Saturday night at 10:30 o’clock at his home in Colby at the age of 37 years. Cancer and other complications, which included a heart attack, caused his death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Lulloff funeral home and at 2:00 at the Methodist church, Rev. A. C. Riley officiating, and burial was made in the Colby cemetery. He served in the regular U.S. army for three years and was a member of the National Guard battery at Abbotsford for eight years. He was given a military funeral by the American Legion post of Colby. Pall bearers were Harvey Bitters, Henry Lemmin, George Kowalk, Ed Frome, R. J. Steiber and Herb Kanter; the color bearers were Lloyd Smith and C. A. Nelsen; color guards, Dr. A. F. Weix and Harold Miller; the firing squad, Wm. C. Pacholke, C. R. Whitney, Ernest W. Schulz, Fred Kowalk, Carl Sabler and Rod H. Markus; officer of the day, I. M. Firnstahl. Taps was sounded by Betty Frane. Those in charge of the flowers were Betty Jean Bender, LaVera Stieber, Marcia Gries, Leona Rannow and four cousins – Rae Jean Schroder of Marshfield, Evelyn Fahrenbach of Curtiss, Mrs. Orville Leiders of Abbotsford and Mrs. Arthur Steinke of Unity.

The deceased was born on April 18, 1905, in Colby and spent most of his life here. His mother died while he was a boy and he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Biell, in Colby until he married Miss Viola Schroeder of Curtiss on July 8, 1929. Survivors are the widow; one daughter, Betty Sill; one son, Robert Sill; his father, Frank Sill, and his uncle, John Biell, all of Colby. Also three half-brothers, Otto Sill of Kansas City, Mo., Paul Sill and Norman Sill, and a half-sister, Alma Sill.

Before being taken seriously ill, Arnold was finishing a course in the machinist trade at Marshfield.
